The Geneseo Public Library is excited to announce that Dave Markward, a former resident, parent, teacher, coach, principal, and Assistant Superintendent of Geneseo Schools, will be speaking at 6 p.m. on April 14 at the library.
Dave has written a new book, From Dubuque to Selma & Beyond: My Journey to Understand Racism in America. In it, Dave delves into the complex world of racism. This memoir is a testament to his unwavering belief in humanity and the power of education to effect change.
Dave graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and Augustana College. He earned two advanced degrees from Western Illinois University and a doctorate from Illinois State University. He began his career in education as a junior high school science teacher, having last served the Geneseo area as superintendent of schools.
This is Dave’s second book; his first was Free the Teachers: A Guide to Joyful Teaching and Learning, which was dedicated to productive educational reform.
Dave’s presentation is sure to be interesting and provocative.
